A Unique Creation for Sustainable Fashion
In a world where fast fashion dominates, this skirt embodies a responsible and creative alternative. By giving a second life to vintage materials, it illustrates how fashion can be both sustainable and stylish. This unique piece is an invitation to rethink our relationship with clothing, valuing quality, creativity, and sustainability.
A Handmade Skirt: A Story of Transformation and Elegance
At a wedding, a conversation with my cousin Catherine marked the beginning of a unique creation. She told me about her mother's engagement dress, a magnificent taffeta piece, too retro to be worn today, but too emotionally charged to be sold. This dress, made by the Brussels-based house P. Liètart, has been resting in a closet for years, waiting for a second life.
The taffeta, the main material of this dress, inspired the creation of a long evening skirt. To modernize the piece, I used stretch jeans, purchased from Bakermat, to adjust the waist, bringing a contrast between the volume of the taffeta and the flexibility of the jeans. The blue tulle ruffles, added to lighten the silhouette, bring a touch of coloured lightness and elegance.
This skirt is the result of a tactile and intuitive approach, combining quality materials and original design. It celebrates sustainability and innovation, transforming a vintage fabric into a contemporary and sophisticated piece. Every detail, from the taffeta to the blue tulle, and the stretch jeans, contributes to a unique creation that combines comfort and elegance.
